Get Passionate and Purposeful about your business!
Recently I read Annabel Karmel’s book “Mumpreneur” and have been really inspired on becoming like her. Being a Mumpreneur enables mummies like us to have the best of both worlds; the ability to – be in charge of the care of our children (or child in my case), and have an independent life in the outside world.
The book starts off with talking about Getting Passionate and Purposeful about your business. For me, I felt like my passion for building a business has gotten even stronger and my purpose even more defined after having a baby.
Your future clients and people in general are motivated by emotions; facts don’t sell, emotions do. I’ve talked about myself and the reasons why I aspire to be a Mumpreneur. Think about these questions in your own quiet time and learn to figure yourself out. My personal answers follow:
What is your main purpose of your existence? Do you have a message you truly believe in that you wish to send out to the world? What do you aim to do in your business?
I wish to spread the love that God has for us because “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19) and anything is possible with God because it is in his plan to prosper us above all things. With this assurance that I have, I am fearless because I know that I have protection and I have faith because I know that He has great plans for me. Setting up a business gives me opportunities to be a living testimony, to connect with people and prosper my hands to do good in this world. I aim to give back a portion of my revenue to needy families or children societies so if you do know of any worthy organisations, please do contact me.
What kind of environment do you want to live in? An ethical, honest or convenient world?
Having been in the society for some time and seen some ugly sides of others, I really hope to live in a world where we can place our trust freely in people, and work ethics are of prime importance. In my business, I promise to be ethical (to deliver whatever is promised) and not run away from responsibilities. I also want to spread positivism and happiness to everyone who deals with me.
Is there something you wish to do better than others in?
With my previous experiences, I think that I do pretty well with building relationships and customer service, and of course I have so much more to learn in this aspect as the consumers are always being spoiled with higher standards of customer service evolving all the time. I want to honour my clients and I want to be transparent in my business.
What are the values which you relate to and value the most?
I value honesty, ethics and kindness the most; and it is also what I want to instill in Styx. So I hope to be a good role model for my dearest daughter through my business model.
And there you have it, my very initial thought process of setting up a business. Again, these are all very personal and may not apply to you but I hope the little exercise makes you start thinking about what you want out of life. Since our time now as mummies are very precious, it’s definitely worthy to spend time thinking about what you really want!
Stephanie is mummy to Styx born in July 2015. She is Jesus-loving, panda-eyed and a caffeine addict. Her desire for more sleep is hindered by an empowering desire to be a Mumpreneur amidst other interests. She is blessed with an encouraging husband who helps with the chores and believes in her dreams.
